An October Occasion...

Kia ora koutou

The kids started back at school and kindergarten last week woohoo! :)  I started my new part-time job - it is fantastic, my employer's are lovely, I am going to do my best and hope they keep me on for a long time. I also started back at my Monday Card Class, how I missed the ladies - thank you Linda for teaching your wonderful cards over the school holidays.

Monday Card Class...

Romantic Vintage

This card is dedicated to nana <3

I wanted to show the ladies how fantastically resourceful the 6.5" x 6.5" pads are - full of beautiful card you can use to decorate, layer, and embellish your creative projects.  Some pads have the additional die-cut labels and borders BONUS!, quick and easy ready-to-make cards :)
The focal point of this card is the red flower - I sponged and stamped the ink colour 'Real Red' around the edges, connecting the focal point to the rest of the card.  For the inside of the card, I fussy-cut some flowers that are also featuring on the front of the card - so when you open the card it is all tied together and you are reminded of the prettiness on the front.

Stamps - Charming, Happy Greetings
Ink - Real Red
Card - French Vanilla Bazil, Kaisercraft: Needle and Thread 6.5" x 6.5" pad ( a few pages)
Accessories - Little Leaves Sizzlit, Butterfly Wings Embosslit, Lacy Border Punch, Scalloped Circle Punch, Triple Blossom Bouquet Punch, 5mm Corner Punch, Scissors (for fussy cutting), Hemp thread, Silver Brad, Dimensionals.

Butterfly Window

For this card, we made our own 'designer paper' by randomly stamping the beautiful swirl images and filling in the gaps with a small flower bouquet stamp with black ink on white card...stunning and simple, this technique is also known as 'one-sheet-wonder'; you can make a whole heap of cards using your hand-stamped designer sheet.
The front of the card has a vellum window with a layered butterfly on top, when closed you can see the designer paper through the window :)

Butterfly Easel

...So we had a little extra time, this meant we were able to make a little extra something :)  My talented and beautiful colleague (fellow tutor in The Paper Peacock design team) Maria, taught me how to make this pretty little easel card.  So simple and easy, if you would like instructions - email me; kerianneh@gmail.com or see me at The Paper Peacock :)

Stamps - Large Swirl Stamp (Borrowed from Linda), Charming, Apothecary Art
Ink - Basic Black
Card - Blue Lagoon Bazil, White Bazil, Vellum (opaque white)
Accessories - Beautiful Butterflies Bigz, Beautiful Wings Embosslits, Labels Collection Framelits, Rhinestone, Dimensionals, Scalpel (to cut out butterfly window).

I am ever grateful for my Stampin' Up! customers, because of you I have the best job in the world (in my opinion, lol)...I mean who else gets to play/create, have a party, meet wonderful people, get free products and fantastic discounts?
I always like to create a unique, beautiful thank you card and pop it in when returning customer orders -  here is the latest one:
Double embossing featuring a half-cut Label Framelit edge.

Graduation

I was asked to make a graduation card, found this fantabulous design through Splitcoast Stampers - a very clever, creative lady Heidi Baks:  click here for the link to her blog; runningwscissorsstamper.

....Love You Mum

While writing this blog, I have been guiltily enjoying scoffing down my chocolates that were given to me for mother's day...sooooo yummmeh!  I want to take this opportunity to say to my mum Priscilla D and my mum out-law (not in-law yet)  Charmaine K - love you <3 xoxo

....On another note: 'An October Occasion' - actually, Saturday 19th October 2013 to be exact, happens to be quite a special occasion...tis the day Ryan and I are to tie the knot, get hitched, OMG get married!!! Yayyyyy, exciting, about time, can't wait!

Punchy Projects...

Kia ora koutou

Well, it has been quite a few busy weeks; completed my Census Collection work for Statistics New Zealand, handed in my first assignment for the Certificate in Small Business Management course, created cards for birthday's, friends, challenges and projects for Monday card classes, my sister Gina and her daughter Tomai came down from Tauranga and stayed a few days (it was lovely to spend time together and catch-up).
One door closes - another opens... I am now looking for a permanent part-time job that is whanau friendly, and fits in with my available hours...sadly I may have to stop teaching Monday card classes, hope not, fingers and toes crossed!!!

Monday Card Class Projects

 Easter

Oh yes we were busy, but it was good fun.  We made a goodies satchel, card and basket, we decorated the back of the satchel with a cute newly hatched chick - my subtle introduction to our next Monday card class doing 'punch art' cards.
I learnt how to make the basket from Rachel Ricks, click here for the link to her website.  I altered the size of the basket and changed it to a single handle.

Punch Art Cards

Cute pram card - cased it.  This card has been made by so many others, I don't know who to credit?
I used from a nest of scalloped circle dies - the third large die.  Cut a quarter wedge out.  Decorated the hood front and halfway across the whole pram with lacy border punched strips.  Punched out two 1"circles for the wheels and decorated with two punched out hearts.  Hand-cut the pram handle...Voile, a very cute pram.

...Lollipop, lollipop, oh lolly lollipop...Very simple concept and very effective.
I used my 1 3/4" Circle Punch, punched out four orange circles and four white circles. Alternating the colours, I overlapped each circle about a half an inch - making sure they intersected at the center.  You end up with a scalloped circle, I used a medium circle die to cut away the scalloped edge.  I rolled a strip of white card for the lollipop stick.

Awww, cute...
I took the basic idea for this card from Lisa Bullock, click here for her tutorial.  I have made up a template for this cute pink, heart giving teddy, if you would like a copy, please email me at; kerianneh@gmail.com

Talking about teddy bear, reminds me of an Elvis Presley song 'Teddy Bear', great song - another great song of his 'Return to Sender', click here for the You Tube link  :)

....A derrrrr moment....

Okay, we've all had one (a derrrrr moment), haven't we?  It's the moment I realise that I just did something unnecessarily stupid!  That is when I say to myself, "doh what a dick!" lol...
Anyway, I mentioned in my previous post that I was challenged to do a card swap with my Stampin' Up! buddy's.  I was like, yes it is on!  The instructions were to make up four kits, as there is four of us that get together every second Sunday.  So with heaps of inspiration and gusto, I went forth into a card-making frenzy and created the most technical, but beautiful masterpiece I have ever made (in my opinion).  I got so carried away, I made  all four cards and forgot they were supposed to be kits and I was to demonstrate how to make them.  Sorry Carol, Shane and Sandra - next time I will get it right :)

...Life is like a Butterfly...

I have recently learnt a fantastic technique using crepe paper to make the most devine butterflies!!!  The wonderful Paper Angel - Liz Collett has a great video tutorial called Crepe Paper Flowers and Butterflies, click here for the You Tube link.
I have changed it little by using tissue as well - crepe paper does not take stamped images very well, but tissue paper does.  I also sprayed the crepe paper and tissue with silver Glimmer Mist (silver Pearl Ex mixed with water in a fine mist spray bottle).

Happy Anniversary
